Puerto Rican architect based in Beijing, Cruz García alongside French architect Nathalie Frankowski form the duo Garcia Frankowski. These architects, artists and writers use different media to explore their ideas for architecture. This duo also work under WAI Architecture Think Tank for publishing theoretical texts and executing architectural projects.

Shapes, Islands, Texts is part of Garcia Frankowski's Intelligentsia collection, which presents the literary and visual experimentations by the authors. These experimentations by García Frankowski range from painting to poetry, essays and visual narratives. The experimentation on these media enable the duo to create new aesthetic and conceptual discourses.

This book is described as a "conceptual tryptique" that presents the reader with three tools for creating new narratives:

"Shapes that are explored through multiple strategies –from monochromatic paintings to collages of pure geometries; conceptual Islands that are not only independent from any all-absorbing discourse but that one next to each other constitute theoretical archipelagoes; and Texts that sometimes are pure form and other times are independent like islands in the ocean."

Our interview with Cruz García and Nathalie Frankowsko about García Frankowski and WAI Think Tank will be coming soon! Stay tuned!
